Hiking to Keep Yourself in Shape

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Hiking is an enjoyable activity that mixes keeping fit and the discovering the outdoors up close and personal. If you intend to go hiking, these hiking tips can offer something to think about, and allow you to adequately plan for your first hike. If you’re into golfing, a nice unit to invest in is the Skygolf SkyCaddie SG5.

Plan your route and target. This is the initial and most important hiking tip since it will decide the gear you ought to pack for your hike. You ought to select your trail with respect to your skills, so in case you are not confident about your ability to finish a certain hike, opt for an easier hike.

As we already covered, your trail will decide the things you should bring. For hikes on clearly marked trails, a map and a compass should be enough. If you plan to go on wilder trails, a GPS-enabled device in addition to the map and compass could turn out to be handy. A backpack is the most common choice for toting stuff while hiking. Just see to it you fasten the straps properly. Pack as light as you can without ignoring any required items. And if you’re going to go out and golf, invest in the Skygolf SkyCaddie SG5.

Bring a hat and sunglasses if you are hiking in open fields, mountain trails, and other open-area hiking trails. Hiking boots and shoes which have thick soles guard your feet from rocks and hard objects on the path.

Handy hiking tips include using clothes which incorporate rugged material. When hiking, it is recommended to go with function rather than form, so garments that stand up to scrapes snags and are easy to move in are the most reasonable choices. Having said that, while shorts maximize movement and comfort, they won’t defend you from low-growing plants and insects. Stay clear of these! Chafing is often a consequence of long hikes, so minimize the risk by choosing non-chafing fabrics.

Applying sunscreen is just common sense when you are hiking under the sun. You might like to get a tan, but it would not do to get sunburned. Additionally, you should, apply insect repellant on exposed areas of skin: the arms, legs, and even face.

Understand your allergies. This is can often underestimated by hikers, many of whom suddenly find out they’re allergic to certain plants when they are in the field. Most hiking trails display plant information, but in any case you should accomplish your own research. While you’re at it, try to discover what insects and venomous animals there are along the trail, so you know what to stay away from. Treatment is the last thing you can anticipate out in the woods, so knowing beforehand can enable you to avoid some risky situations.

Bring water or sports drinks. Hiking may be a vigorous exercise, consequently your body will require fluids to replace what you give up to sweating. Sports drinks give you the added edge of supplying ions which are lost as well.

A first aid kit will be crucial. This is not merely an important hiking tip, but it also refers to life in general. For the purpose of hiking, though, you have to be ready for certain injuries such as lacerations, bruises, bites, and broken bones. Staying away from danger is a good way to proceed, but it’s also best to presuppose that something is likely to happen so that you can organize for it. Being technologically prepared will really benefit you, so look into the Skygolf SkyCaddie SG5.

If you can, hike with a buddy. You can help each other out, either in dangerous spots or just getting past obstacles. Be mindful of these hiking tips and stay safe. Avoid unneeded risks, but don’t avoid getting to know the great outdoors!

Looking For Family Enjoyment, Try Camping

Friday, October 30th, 2009

One of the greatest experiences for family bonding is a camping trip. By leaving all the electronics at home for a few days, you and your family are forced to spend time getting to know one another once again.

While a camping trip can be a lot of work it can also be a lot of fun. You can cook over a campfire or use a camp stove. The results may be quite different than the microwave stuff you cook at home. Maybe you will discover you really like the taste of food that is cooked over a real fire. Since there is not a dishwasher, you will have to wash some dishes by hand even if you choose to use disposable forks and plates.

There will be plenty of time for nature walks while camping. Take time to enjoy all the nature walks and talks by the ranger. Look for wildlife that strolls through your campsite. Stop and smell the wild flowers along the way. Make the most of the time that you have together as a family.

In the evenings after dinner you can play family games by the lantern light or someone can pull out a guitar and your campsite can lead the campground in your favorite campfire songs.

If the above described camping trip sounds like fun for you, go ahead and reserve a campsite for your family fun today. You can stop reading right here.

If the above described camping trip sounds like less than ideal for you, here is some good news. Many campgrounds and resorts are now equipped with wifi. By paying a few dollars more per night you can have electrical hook ups. This will give you power to keep the laptop and hand held video games charged. Some sites even have cable hookups for your television viewing. Camping does not have to be boring any longer.

When that you hear the first group walking by on their nature walk, quickly stash everything in the tent, use a stick to poke at your campfire, smile and wave. They will keep going and you can get back to life.

Dr Bates and Vision Improvement – The Natural Way

Friday, October 30th, 2009

better eyesight

Dr Bates championed vision improvement and devised many different techniques which he claimed improved a patient’s eyesight. He claimed that strain on the eyes to see was infinite, and he devised a method of relieving the strain to improve vision.

He particularly explained that a set approach would not work for everyone, and so Dr. Bates became a well known alternative therapist. This is still widely practiced today.

He used techniques designed to dissociate strain and then achieve central seeing; which is the central point of vision omitting staring. He claimed that all errors of refraction and disturbances of function disappear when the eyes see by central fixation; and if there were any other associated conditions they too would be relieved. He also stated that exposing the eyes to sunlight would improve vision.

Medical associates have criticized Dr. Bates methodology and have stated what negative consequences could occur if patients followed the protocol; especially if their eyes are over exposed to sunlight. They also stated that it would be negligent to not wear corrective lenses while driving and would worsen or even cause serious implications to the eyes.

One of his techniques to vision improvement was closing the eyes which would help relax them; the patient would cover their eyes with their palms applying no pressure at all to the eyeballs. The theory behind this method was to eliminate light creating total relaxation of the eyes. Although some patients stated that they have illusions of light and colour; Bates claimed these would totally disappear when the eyes were relaxed.

The Bates Association for Vision Education are qualified professionals that teach the Bates method for vision improvement. The teachers mostly work with children, but offer individual lessons to adults.

Workshops and lectures centered around perfect vision. Training is offered on an ongoing basis. Pupils are taught how to improve their eyesight without having corrective surgery; as well as teaching how to increase the chances of eliminating degenerative eye disease. Black lettering is used as well as the swing method to help correct vision.

It is debatable as to whether these eye therapy methods really work; or maybe it is mind over matter and those that claim that there is improvement could be purely from "autosuggestion". Dr. Bates and vision improvement has no solid evidence of proof that this therapy actually works. However, many individuals claim that it does.

perfect vision

We are sure you know just how important it is to keep your body fit. We do this by jogging, swimming, biking and going to the gym. However, do you know how important it is to exercise your eyes for better vision as well? What? Did you just say that you never heard of eye exercises before? If you like the idea of keeping your eyes healthy, then continue reading the rest of this article to learn some simple exercises.

First of all, find a comfortable seat to engage in vision therapy. Rub your hands together until you have generated some warmth. Close your eyes and cover them with your palms. You should not put any pressure on your eyes. Make sure no light is entering the eyes. Imagine a deep area of blackness and concentrate on that blackness. Evenly and slowly start to take deep breaths as you are thinking of something happy. Begin to visualize a distant scene. When your eyes do not see anything but blackness, move your hands away from your eyes and repeat this.

For anywhere from three to five seconds, you should close your eyes tightly, then open them for another three to five seconds. Do this for about seven to eight times.

As you are sitting in a comfortable chair, roll your eyes clockwise, then roll them counter-clockwise. Do this five times and blink in between those times.

Sit in front of a window, put a mark on the window. This could be a small sticker that is either red or black. Look through that mark and then focus on something that is far around for about fifteen seconds. The,focus on that mark again. As you see, there are many simple eye exercises that you can do.

Camping In Mexico – You Better Be Flexible To Enjoy It

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

If you are a camper and you enjoy a challenge, a camping trip to Mexico could be just the challenge you are looking for. It is a country of mystery and intrigue, but is you have never camped before, leave visiting Mexico until you have a little experience. Finding yourself off the main highway and in the dessert is easily done and you have to be prepared for any eventuality.

Planning is essential, and the trip to successful camping is to take everything you need, but not too much!  Because regardless of how careful your planning you have to be  adventurous, because and incident free trip is rare.

The most fantastic camping opportunities are likely to appear out of nowhere, and this is the beauty of camping. Memories are made of this, but be aware that you have to have a lot of nerve to pull it off, Mexico is not for shrinking violets, so if you are made of sterner stuff, you will be just fine.

You have to be prepared to camp and dress for any conditions, and one night you could be in  the searing dessert and the next in snowy, pine forested mountains. One good thing is that  dessert night conditions are cold, so you will have clothing for both these eventualities.  You may even experience tropical storms!

To really enjoy a Mexican camping experience you have to be very flexible and be able to go with the flow. Because of the extremes, even the best lad plans go astray and you have to be able to adapt to this.

Use camping checklists, you will find these online, they will help you ensure you have everything  you need in its most compact form. Shop for your luxuries in the US, while shopping in  unfamiliar stores in unfamiliar Mexican towns is fun, if you are a woman and you want a  Hershey bar now, you will be in for a long wait. Nachos can never replace your favorite  chocolate bar.

Never drink tap water, unless you have boiled it or purified it, bottled water is always the safest. Make sure you have enough water with you, your nearest Chevron, may be a long way away. Take toilet paper, sunscreen and biodegradable toiletries.

Make sure you have an emergency medical kit, you need it to be compact, yet comprehensive,  find a checklist for this online too. My mother suggests, anti-diarrhea and nausea  medication, elastoplasts of various sizes, asprin and brandy (her cure all).

Selecting Sunglasses for the Shape of Your Face

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

The majority of us like to think that we could slip on any form of sunglasses and look good. Regrettably, this is not always the situation. However, you do not have to fuss since next are a variety of valuable hints on how to choose a pair of shades to complement the shape of your face. While particular styles might come across as decent, once you use the following principles, you will find a design that will really flatter the shape of your face. Fortunately, everybody can find discount sunglasses or replica sunglasses on the Internet, even designer marks such as Gatorz sunglasses, or so this stylish accessory is {available to anyone}.

The main advice is to go for a pair of glasses that are balanced to the width and height of your face. If your face is large, you would like to keep away from putting on small sunglasses, for the reason that this alternative will cause your face to seem even bigger. On the other hand, when you have a small face, the dimensions of your shades ought to be smaller in order to avoid being totally concealed. Regarding this goal, you ought to find a mirror and determine the size and shape of your face.

A person has a round face when the forehead is high, particularly with rounded cheekbones, jaw line and chin. With a rounded face, you ought to select frames that forms a disimilarity with the face’s shape. The best choices are square or rectangular frames. Straight lines will craft an equilibrium against the rounded contour of the face. Stay away from circular glasses since they will just exaggerate the shape of your face and sometimes make it look much more full. If you own a wide circular face, do not be scared to test oversized rectangular sunglasses!

You have an elliptical face if your forehead is a little bigger than the chin, and the cheekbones produce a slight angle to circular face. Persons with an oval shaped face are privileged, because with this form you can pull off nearly any design of glasses. Then again, frames that are somewhat leaning are recommended. These will put emphasis on the lips and cheeks to present an exceptionally stunning appearance. If you want to attempt a more audacious look, get horn-rimmed glasses in order to show off the superb contour of your face.

An individual has a square face if the face has more distinct features and a box-like shape. The most essential thing you desire is develop a contrast with the outline of the face. A curved or elliptical style of glasses will moderate the elements of the face. Rounded, extra-large shades are a great selection for a square face. The dimension will make the face to look triangular. Keep away from frames that are rectangular or square in shape. These sorts make the chin seem more visible and appreciably bigger.

A person has a triangle-shaped face if your brow is wide, but your cheek bones and jaw become more tapered. Large, circular sunglasses are the best choice when you are trying for a younger “pretty” look. It generates a doll-face vision and lessens the lines and angles of your face. To get a more sophisticated style, try on sunglasses that are oval, and with a dark hue.

One has a rectangular face if the face is square but slightly elongated. In order to make your face appear more in proportion and slightly more slight, make an attempt to discover sunglasses with a triangle-shaped or egg-shaped frame. A style similar to Aviators should work great.

A few more added suggestions for every face shape:

* The top of the frames of the sunglasses ought not ever obscure the eyebrows.

* Make an attempt to match the shade of your frames with the color of your hair.

* Rimless glasses and Aviators are a perfect choice for almost every facial shape.

* The edges of your sunglasses is supposed to stick slightly beyond the widest part of your face.

The History of Natural Vision Improvement

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

vision exercise

Maintaining good vision is very important, as much as 80% of the information you obtain from the world around you is received through your eyesight! The history of natural eye correction dates back to Dr. William Bated who was born in 1860 and died in 1931. He was a distinguished eye surgeon who was not happy with the fact that glasses were used as a standard for curing visual impairment.

Over the millennia our eyes have changed in keeping with the way we live our lives. Hunter, gatherers of the past used their eyes for both long distance and close examination at all times, for example looking into the distance in search of food or enemies, and in the next breath closely examining a berry filled bush. This kept the eye muscles agile which in turn allows for keen vision.

Times changed, particularly with the industrial revolution, and today people spend many hours immobile with their eyes fixed on a specific task. The eye muscles no longer receive the type of exercise they require to keep agile and many unnecessary eye problems occur.

Dr. Bates spent many years researching vision, he concluded that strain in the eyes was caused by mental strain or stress and poor lifestyle. This led to ocular dysfunction such as double vision, blurriness, sensitivity to light and other problems. He also spent time studying people with perfect sight and noted that the function of the eyes was different.

The outcome of his studies led him to treat his patients by teaching them to relax and also vision training. The outcome of this was that the visual brain and eyes were often restored to maximum potential.

His techniques have spread and are still used world-wide, many people have improved and regularly perfected their vision by means of his methods. He wrote a book for this purpose called "Better Eyesight without Glasses" which is published by Grafton Press.

Maybe natural vision improvement can help to improve the health of the eye. It is a holistic approach which includes simple exercises and habits which are key to maintaining and improving good eyesight. The majority of your vision occurs in the brain, these exercises help the brain to make more meaning of the visual world.

Yoga For the Eyes – Maintain the Health of Your Eyes

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Do you spend a lot of your time staring at that computer screen during work? If this is true, then we are sure you realize just how tiring and draining that can be for your eyes as well as your entire body. For those of you that would like to maintain the health of your eyes, we highly recommend looking into yoga for the eyes. Yes, there is a such thing as eye yoga for vision therapy and it is just starting to become popular today.

When you are doing this, you will need to relax and remove everything from your mind. Basically, it is like any other form of yoga, except you are using your eyes and concentrating on them. Through this form of yoga, you will be improving your visual concentration.

In order to improve that visual concentration, you will need to strengthen it. Find a comfortable place where you can sit with your neck and back straight, but it should not be stiff. Hold your posture for a couple of minutes, then increase that gradually.

Concentrate on gazing at the tip of your nose. During this time, you should not blink. Stay like this for as long as you possibly can. When you’re done, close your eyes and relax. After words check for flashes of time where you see clearly. This is something that happens when you are making progress.

Concentrate on that third eye. While you are doing this, you should not blink. For those of you that do not know, the third eye is that area that is above your nose between your eyebrows. When you have concentrated on it, close your eyes and relax. At first, it may seem hard to do or uncomfortable, but you should not let yourself get frustrated.

You see, there are many forms of yoga for eye exercises to improve vision that you can do. Nearly every single one of them involves the individual concentrating and getting rid of all the stress. When you do this, you will be maintaining the health of your eyes.

Eye Vision Improvement Exercises – Something You Should Try?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

In order to improve our vision, we have been trying out some eye exercises and have found that they are pretty effective. From time to time, we run across individuals that claim these exercises that do not do any good. Maybe that is because they do not try the correct exercises? If you are looking for eye vision improvement exercises, then we would like for you to read this article. The previous article you read may have been written by someone that used the wrong exercises, so give it a chance and read this article.

The first exercise we have for you involves sitting comfortably in front of a window. Get a sticker, or a piece of tape that is black in color. Start by focusing on the sticker for about twenty seconds, then look out the window for twenty seconds. Keep alternating between those two.

Next is the blinking exercise. This is an exercise that is overlooked a lot, but it is simple to use, Every three to four seconds, just blink your eyes. You can do this while you are writing or you may choose to sit somewhere comfortable and relax to do this. The choice is up to you.

Write numbers and letters that are different sizes on a soccer ball, kickball and softball. Hang them from the ceiling on a string and give them a knock in any direction you choose. When it swings, call out the numbers and letters you see. This is a simple technique that does not involve much.

This exercise involves following your thumb. A couple of times throughout the day, hold up your thumbs in front of you about an arm’s length away and move them in circles, X’s and crosses. You can use in and out motions as well. Without moving your head, follow your thumb.

As you see, there are many vision improvement exercises that you can use. Believe it or not, there are even more exercises than this. Some of those exercises consist of palming, looking away, etc. Next: Learn how to see clearly again.

Making A Survival Shelter

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

When shelter is essential to survival, if possible, build this survival shelter.  One of the best survival shelters is called the “debris hut”.A debris hut is just a pile of branches, dead leaves, and whatever else is around. If you built it correctly, there iwill be enough space under it for you to lie comfortably – and still breathe. Do not wait until it gets dark to start building, for it can take about 1-2 hours to build a hut.Make your shelter large enough for yourself, especially in cold climates, for it will be easier to heat~Since you probably are going to have to heat the shelter, especially in cold climates, make your shelter just large enough to accommodate you}. Make your shelter just large enough to accommodate you, especially in cold climates, because you are going to have to heat it.

Making a survival shelter debris hut:

– Find yourself a sturdy branch or pole with the length of about 1.1/5-2 times your height. This will be the main beam of your hut.

Another option is to find a fallen tree that will fit to build this hut. Look for something to hold the main beam of the hut off the ground. A stump, rock, tree with a forked branch, or anything strong enough that can support the beam. The height should be a little higher than when you are sitting down.

Make your shelter just large enough to accommodate you, especially in cold climates, because you are going to have to heat it with your own body heat.

– Lean smaller poles against both sides of your main beam at about a 45 degree angle to make a framework. Place them close together and fill in around them with smaller branches.

– Cover this framework with materials at hand such as dead leaves, evergreen branches, dry fern, or grass. Use whatever you can find. After you have enought debris in place, at least one meter (39″) thick, then on the outside of the hut, you will need to place a layer of small, light sticks inorder to prevent all your insulation from blowing away.

– Depending the thickness of your insulating layer, a debris hut can keep you dry and warm, even in frigid temperatures.

– Place about a 12 inches (30 cm) layer of debris inside the shelter. Try to choose stuff that you would like to sleep on. Your body heat can be lost very quickly lying on the bare ground.

– At the entrance, build a door or pile insulating material that you can drag there once inside the shelter. It is a good idea to place the entrance of the shelter away from the wind. Wind and rain blowing towards or into the entrance will take the heat away from your shelter.

You can make a door by gathering finger size dead wood and lashing it into a grid pattern. Make two grids and place debris between the two grids. Lash the grids together, then you will have an insulated door.

Finally, you must cover the skeleton with whatever material is available, for example, spruce twigs, grass, bracken fern and large leaves. Always start at the bottom of the shelter and work upwards when thatching, so that if it rains, the water will run over the joints and will not leak through onto you. You can make your work easier by using any standing or fallen timber, or a wall, as one side of the shelter.
Besides having adequate shelter, survival gear is also necessary to endure in wilderness situations.
If you desire a more portable, solid-wall structure that keeps you warm and dry that can accommodate many people, check out this Portable Hunting Camp.
