The Firefighters Battle For The Garage

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

When the flames were growing higher Jim knew that the alarm bells would be sounding soon. He just did not know how long it was going to be until they started to go off. Thankfully Jim knew that it was not his home that was in need of help, but it was his neighbors. That is when he decided that he had better get ready to go to the firehouse to battle this beast.

Jim quickly grabbed a pair of pearl izumi shorts and ran out of the house. The bad thing was he did not realize that he grabbed the wrong pairs when he was leaving the house. He quickly realized what he did though and decided to turn around before the guys at the station seen him in what he was wearing.

The tones started dropping not long after he t dropping telling the department about the fire he already knew about. He heard that it was his neighbor that called in the fire so he was thankful about that, but he was just worried now about the diamondback bikes that he used to keep in the garage and he hoped they were okay.

He hopped onto his mongoose mountain bike and pedaled as fast as he could. The station was a little over a mile down the road, but it would still take him about two to three minutes to reach it. Once he reached it though he knew that it was going to be a slim crew today because the engine was not even started yet.

As he turned into the station the door was already going up, but the truck was not running yet. He quickly fired up the engine and heard it roar to life. He knew that the rest of the crew was going to be coming in quickly, but if they were not their by the time he was ready they would take off.

They started talking about who would drive, but then they noticed the address and decided that Jim could have the nozzle since he knew the house. Thankfully he had been in the garage only the day before so he know not a whole lot would change over night.

As Jim took the nozzle into the garage he could see the dim glimmer of flames in the back corner. He headed in that direction and cracked the hose open onto the fire. The flames quickly went out and they walked out of the building knowing they had made one heck of a stop.

Get Fit In The Great Outdoors

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

If all you’re looking for is muscle growth or a general workout, then going to the gym is fine. Many people, however, feel like gyms don’t give them the kind of exercise they really want. These people crave the outdoors and the thrills that come from outdoor activities. These types of people often lose interest in going to the gym.

Some people are lucky enough to live in towns near great wilderness areas or large parks that give them the feeling of getting away from it all. Others have to wait for their vacations to come before they can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. While it may be difficult for a city dweller to find time to get back to nature, anyone will tell you that nothing is healthier than spending time outdoors, however you can get it.

A bicycle is a terrific way to feel the freedom and exhilaration of the outdoors, even if you live in the city. With 24 gears, a Schwinn mountain bike can climb the steepest hills and its disc brakes make it possible to stop quickly even at breakneck speeds. There is nothing more satisfying than plummeting down a steep hill after conquering an equally steep uphill slope.

Of course, there are dangers associated with riding mountain bikes, both in the city and in the country. In the city, you always have to watch for traffic. It would be mad not to wear a helmet while riding a bike of any description in the city.

The color of your helmet and its style are irrelevant. A black helmet will protect your noggin just as well as a day glow pink one will. The only important thing is that you buy a helmet and wear it whenever you go out for a ride.

This is as true offroad as it is on a busy street. When you fall off a mountain bike, you are at risk of a head injury, no matter where you are. Just having that helmet on your head will give you enough protection that you can continue on a carefree ride.

If mountain biking doesn’t appeal to you, then hiking or rock climbing may. If you’re doing either of these, the right footwear is essential. Hikers should wear sturdy boots with no slip soles. Rock climbers wear special shoes that fit tightly and have sticky soles for gripping on stone.

For all around physical, mental and even emotional health, get outdoors. Don’t let anything stop you. You’ll love it.

Find Recreation Areas for Biking, Fishing, Hiking, and More

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Are you planning a vacation, or just a weekend recreation and you are not sure where to go and what to bring with you? It’s not hard to get the information needed, all you need is Internet and you will find anything you need, from the best places for biking to most exotic places for fishing. You can find recreation areas and also learn what those areas require from you, in terms of legal issues and permits and what safety measures they recommend.
So here are a few insights on what you may find on those sites, lets start with biking. If you are into road biking, mountain biking or cycling you can find a lot of recreational areas. But you will need to follow the rules such as no littering, there are designated areas for trash where you can dispose of any garbage. You must make sure that the bike you are riding is permitted by checking the destination ahead, and you must operate your bike only in permitted areas. Some of the areas are wildlife sanctuary and are not allowed for activities such as biking. For the safety measures you must use safety equipment such as helmets, pads, gloves etc… You must also bring any extra safety equipment such as lamps, radio, cell phone, water and you must ride only in permitted areas as some areas are not safe for biking.

If you are into fishing the rules are the same. You must follow the guidelines of the recreational area and you must respect the safety measures. Like any other recreational area no littering is allowed, you must fish only in the designated areas and you must use the correct gear and bait. You must also pay attention to the limit of the number of gear and the number of fish you may keep. Also you must pay attention not to spread a certain species of fish to the next body of water. Safety measures are regular as for any other recreation area which means you must have all of the necessary safety equipment with the addition of life jacket if you are fishing from the boat. You must also take care when you are removing hooks and baiting, and you must take care not to fish in unauthorized areas.

If you are ready to go hiking you must obey the same rules. No littering, no hiking or walking in unauthorized areas, you must wear proper clothing and footwear. Well that last isn’t a must but a safety measure, other safety measures are regular safety equipment and caution when hiking not to walk into an unauthorized area as it may not be safe.

You can also find recreational areas for any type of pleasure from camping and climbing to camping and lodging. All you have to do to be ready is get informed, and you can do that online easily, especially if you are going to a recreational area where you have never been before.
